Michael Essien’s Wife Buys Italian Club, Como For 110 Million NGN

Akosua Puni Essien, the wife of Ghanaian footballer Michael Essien has purchased an Italian third tier club, Como for 110 Million NGN (£206,000).

Akosua make the acquisition last week at an auction for the bankrupt club. “The new owner and her team wish to make both the first team and the youth team grow,” the club said in a statement. “They will put their efforts into creating conditions to take the team back to Serie B and to develop the club’s young talents.”

“Mrs Puni Essien and her team will soon be in our city to meet the fans and supporters of the club,” they added.

Founded in 1907, Calcio Como S.r.l. is an Italian football club, based in Como, the team had several short stints in Serie A, the longest being from 1984 to 1989.
