After a longstanding legal war and five months behind bars, Meek Mill is officially a free man. But, his legal issues are far from over.

On Tuesday, Pennsylvania Supreme Court ordered the lower court to immediately issue an order releasing the rapper on unsecured bail with the same conditions. The move came after months of legal back and forth, a slew of appeals and claims of bias and misconduct against the presiding judge, Genece Brinkley after she sentenced Meek to 2-4 years in prison for probation violation.

Meek’s sentencing caused widespread outrage after the rapper’s legal team accused the judge of holding a grudge against him for passing up the opportunity to switch management and shout her out in a song. But, the judge refused to back down, ignoring allegations of corruption at the hands of the initial arresting officer and suggestions from the city’s District Attorney.

However, after five months, with support from the city’s Governor, his own probation officer, as well as the entire city of Brotherly love, Meek Mill was eventually released. But, he is not free of Brinkley’s alleged bias just yet.

Meek Mill Released From Prison After High Court Order

According to TMZ, the judge says she will not remove herself from the rapper’s drug and weapons case, despite the Supreme Court’s invitation to do so. Instead, Brinkley has decided to stay on the case and continue to give Meek a fair shot, so says her lawyer.

According to her attorney Charles Peruto Jr, Judge Brinkley is now ready to consider overturning Meek’s 2008 conviction at his next hearing on June 18, but she still wants to see proof that the cop who arrested Meek was in fact corrupt — even though at least three other convictions linked to the same officer have been immediately thrown out by other judges.

“Judge Brinkley is interested in the new information about the case. If Meek’s legal team present a strong enough case and evidence at the hearing that the cop was corrupted, then she will overturn Meek’s conviction,” Peruto added.
