Jamaicans are furious after news surfaced that Shaneke Williams, a woman that was charged for aiding and abetting the rape of a 15-year-old girl was named a finalist in the 2017 Miss Jamaica World beauty pageant.
The decision has since cause widespread condemnation on social media as users blasted oraganizers, Spartan Health Club.
Many Jamaicans have vowed to withdraw their support from the pageant, threatening to boycott this year’s staging if Williams is not removed immediately.
The case involved former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate Don Creary who was charged with rape. The charges against the two were later dismissed after the complainant indicated that she did not wish to proceed with the matter.
