Jamaican woman held with over US $76k at airport

A Jamaican woman was detained after being held with US$76,100 in her possession at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Police arrested 36-year-old Coleen Brown, a registered nurse, who listed her addresses as Portmore, St Catherine and New Jersey, USA, on July 8.

The woman was arrested after failing to declare the cash, which was discovered in hidden compartment of her suitcase. Her charges include; failing to declare criminal property and attempting to conceal criminal property.

The woman claims the suitcase was given to her by a family member, but later provided documents claiming that the cash was legally hers.

The woman is scheduled to appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court where she will be represented by Queen’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson.
