Jamaican Musician Prince Buster Dead at 78

Ska legend, Prince Buster passed away on Thursday, September 8th at a hospital in Miami.

Cecil Bustamante Campbell also known as the “King of Ska was admitted to the Memorial Regional Hospital in South Florida on September 6th and passed away two days later, the cause of his death remains unknown.

Prince Buster was the pioneer of rocksteady and ska music in the 1960s  and helped to revolutionize Jamaican music. His single “Hard Man Fi Dead” propelled his career and resulted in him being one of the most popular and influential musicians in Jamaica in the late 90s. His rise to fame assisted in the massive international success of other Jamaican vocalists like John Holt, Derrick Morgan, and Alton Ellis.

Not only did Prince Buster’s own records become internationally hits but also songs that he produced for other artists amassed much success.

Some popular hit songs by  Prince Buster includes “Judge Dread,” “Hard Man Fi Dead,” “Madness,” “Wash Wash,”  and “Blackhead Chineyman,”
