The entertainment industry finally secured a win after the Jamaica Government announced an amendment to the Noise Abatement Act.
Last week the House of Representatives voted to allow events to take place until 4 am on weekends during Christmas season. This now gives party-goers a whopping two additional hours.
The announcement was made by Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture, and fisheries, Floyd Green via social media. “The Lower Jamaican House of Parliament just passed an amendment to the Noise Abatement Act for the Festive Season (until January 31, 2020) which provides the framework for events to go until 2 am during the week and to 4 am on weekend,” he said.
Speaking with Parliament, National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang said the bill is in response to the call from the entertainment industry who have been campaigning for a review of the current Noise Abatement Act.
“This bill represents a temporary solution to ensuring that we are providing an environment which accommodates the social needs of our people, when music, church or political events, while preserving the right to non-disturbance,” Chang added.
