There is a serious lack of Jamaican acts on the Billboard Reggae year-end chart.
Billboard Magazine has released its coveted year-end charts for 2019, and once again there is a lack of local representation.
Much like last year, Only three Jamaican acts are represented in the top 10 on the reggae albums list.
Reggae’s newest sensation has become the only new face to crack the top 10, joining veteran acts Shaggy and British Reggae band Steel Pulse.
Once again it is Shaggy who enjoys the highest-charting, clocking in at No. 3, while Koffee and Steel Pulse registered at No. 7 and No. 9 respectively.
The complete year-end chart lists 15 albums in total. Only two other Jamaican artistes made the cut.
Beres Hammond’s Never Ending album makes the cut No. 12, while Jah Cure closes out at No.14 with Royal Soldier.
California based Reggae band Stick Figure rules the top spot with their World On Fire album.
That listing paints a concerning picture for the local Reggae fraternity, as it emphasized that the genre is now being dominated by foreign acts.
