Jamaica becomes first country to sweep both 100/200m at same Olympics

Jamaica is still winning.

After Usain Bolt’s 200-meter win the country becomes the first to have a man and a woman sweep the 100-meter and 200-meter in the Olympics in the same year.

Bolt won gold in the 200m on Thursday in 19.78 seconds after winning the 100m on Sunday 9.81 seconds becoming the first Olympian ever to win the 100 on three separate occasions.

While Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson became the first woman since American Florence Griffith Joyner in 1988 to win gold in the 100-meter and 200-meter at the same Olympics.

Thomas took gold in the 200-meter finals on Wednesday with a season’s best time of 21.78 after winning the gold in the 100-meter on Saturday in 10.71 seconds.
