J Capri Foundation Officially Launched

It was an emotional affair as the J Capri Foundation was officially launched at the Pegasus hotel in St Andrew on Thursday.

The foundation which seeks to preserve the legacy of the late dancehall singjay, Jordan “J Capri” Phillips, who tragically died following a car accident in December 2015, was attended by a collection of family, friends, fans and fellow musicians.

According to the entertainer’s mother, Oradell Carwin, rather than pursuing their original plans to offer assistance to promising young scholars the foundation has decided to shift its focus to assisting young entertainers within the music industry.

Carwin explained that her daughter was very passionate about music, and she was there to witness first hand the many difficulties she faced as a young up-coming artiste in the business.

The mother credited Capri’s eventual success to the support the sinjay received from a network of family and friends, mentors in the business, and her loyal fans.

Citing this, Carwin believes this is the focus her daughter would have wanted the foundation to take as it can be extremely difficult for young artistes in a extremely tough music business.

The J Capri Foundation will take a multidimensional approach as opposed to a one-time scholarship and will target aspiring artistes between the ages of 16 and 25.

The foundation will seek to provide the awardees with financial assistance, training, and education, and professional mentorship and guidance to help further their careers.
