I-Octane has lashed out at vloggers following his latest PR stunt to promote his new single “Next.”

The Dancehall superstar recently sent tongues wagging after posting a video on Instagram claiming he was being blackmailed.

In the clip, the deejay told fans that he was being blackmailed by an ex-lover, who threatened to release footage of them “a do di things dem.” However, the deejay did not state what these ‘things’ were, leaving many to speculate.

In the following days, headlines such as ‘I-Octane confesses to ‘eating the fruit’ emerged on popular vlog sites. But as it turns out the big secret was just a marketing ploy for his new music video.

“I decided to use their own game and show dem how to play because people always a say ‘Octane we rate yuh’, but mi always a ask how it don’t reflect in the support. Dem will tell you say dem need positive songs but when you release dem, dem overlook dem fi di gossip. I have been speaking about how the people who do the blogs, dem nuh mention certain artistes until a some mix-up,” I-Octane said. “What I did showed that people who have the platform that the people go to for their news, only push a certain content. I never say I was doing anything freaky in the video, all I said was ‘me a do the things and she a do di things’. It coulda be anything. I calculated what they would think when I used the word ‘things’ and I used it to my advantage.”

According to Octane, he simply wanted to show how vloggers tend to broadcast negative over positive topics. He says he also wanted to show how easily an artiste’s image can be tarnished on social media with just ‘hearsay.’

“Dem paint the picture how dem wah paint it and den it end up being a music video. So mi think it show dem say in the future, just wait and see a wah happen before unu run go out wid things. How you go out wid a headline say me confess say me do dis or dat when me never even mention the word sex?” he said.

It seems I-Octane’s PR stunt has paid off as his “Next” music video is currently #3 on the local YouTube trending. It has already racked up over 269,000 views in just 5 days, making it one of the hottest tracks out.
