Gyptian Says There Isn’t Any Rich Dancehall Artistes

Gyptian has criticized his former publishers VP Records for what he calls lack of promotion for Dancehall and Reggae artistes on their roster.

The gold-selling Dancehall superstar recently took shots at his former distributors saying that they did not do enough for his career in terms of marketing and promotion during their time together.

According to the deejay, the New York-based record company was largely just a “tag along” for much of his career, as he still had to do most of the promotional work internationally.

The deejay made special reference to the label’s failure to shoot a music video or adequately promote the remix to his massive hit “Hold Yuh,” which featured Nicki Minaj, despite the track spending 50 weeks on the Billboard charts.

Gyptian Caught In Love Triangle After Another Woman Breaks Silence

Gyptian claims that Dancehall/Reggae artistes fail to sell internationally as record labels fail to market them properly or just don’t live up to their agreements at all.

The deejay went on to claim that no current Dancehall or Reggae artiste is actually rich or lives as lavishly as fans would like to believe, with the exception of maybe Shaggy and the Marleys.

Gyptian went on to explain that Jamaican artistes do not gain the fruits of their labour despite Dancehall’s growing popularity around the world as their music is just not selling in the big markets due to lack of promotion.

The deejay, who is now independent, says he is currently making changes to his marketing strategy in order to suit his budget, choosing only to work with people already known to the international community so promotion happens organically.
