Gage claims that Ishawna’s “Equal Rights” single has been dealt a dose of double standards in the dancehall.

Dancehall artist Gage, who is most popularly known for his controversial breakout single “Throat,” has admitted that Ishawna’s “Equal Rights” has been hampered by a case of double standards.

Although the song, which encourages men to perform oral sex on their female partners, has been a big hit on social media it has largely failed to receive strong support from major players within the Dancehall industry.

The “Kitty Kat” deejay believes this lack of support for Ishawna’s hit has been due to a existing industry double standard which is in Dancehall culture, and she just has to accept this.

The deejay stated that although some fans will be quick to compare his “Throat” song to Ishawna’s track, he believes she will never receive the same level of support as the culture simply does not support her message.

According to Gage, the Dancehall scene is a male dominated industry, which is ruled by influential male disc jocks. He claims they are reluctant to throw their support behind the song, as they feel it’s taboo message is not suitable for Dancehall, and could even affect their street reputations.
