On Monday, 39-year-old Jorge Garcia kissed his wife and kids goodbye, just before being deported from metro Detroit to Mexico. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
According to Detroit Free Press, 30 years after traveling to the United States with an undocumented family member at the age of 10, Garcia was sent back to his home country, leaving his wife and two children, who are all citizens of the U.S. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Garcia had been facing deportation since 2009, facing an order of removal from immigration courts. However, Obama’s administration allowed stays of removal, which kept Garcia in the states. But, with Donald Trump’s racist take on immigration, which has fueled his intense crackdown on illegal immigrants, Garcia’s time in the states was cut short. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Despite his good standing with the law, he has been ordered to Mexico. ICE agents escorted the 39-year-old through the airport and allowed him to say goodbye to his wife and children.

According to the publication, prior to his deportation, he asked the agents if he could stay until the new DACA bill passed, as it may expand the age range for qualification (Garcia is too old to qualify), but the organization refused. He was ordered to leave by Jan. 15, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
