Several Jamaican entertainers have blasted the Jamaican government for their slow progress in passing the necessary legislation to facilitate the mass production of marijuana locally.
Due to legal roadblocks, several entertainers say they have already taken their businesses overseas, namely the United states where several states already allow for the cultivation and mass production of the drug for medical and recreational purposes.
In recent months Jamaican superstars such as Damian “Jr Gong” Marley, Julian Marley, Morgan Heritage, and Raging Fyah have all invested heavily in the marijuana business overseas, which experts say is quickly turning into a billion dollar industry.
According to several entertainers, Jamaica is already lagging far behind in comparison to its numerous competitors and may end up being completely shut out of the lucrative market due to negligence on behalf of the government.
They argue that although Jamaican marijuana is highly favored and has the advantage of being culturally tied to our music, we will struggle to compete against overseas distributors will have attained years of experience and capital to corner the market.
