Diana King ‘Shy Guy’ Sampled By DJ Khaled, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Big Sean

DJ Khaled being the original ‘Yaad Man’ he is, made sure his 11th studio album “Father of Asahd” was not short of Jamaican flavour.

The American DJ/Producer’s first track off the project “Holy Mountain” features Jamaican superstars Buju Banton, Sizzla, and Mavado. Banton, who is a close friend of Khaled also appears on the final single “Holy Ground.”

Holy Mountain debuted at number one on the Billboard Reggae Digital Song Sales chart last week. The song samples late Reggae artiste Billy Boyo’s 1981 smash hit “One Spliff A Day.”

DJ Khaled also sampled legendary Jamaican singer-songwriter Diana King’s 1995 classic “Shy Guy” for his “Jealous” collaboration with R&B singer Chris Brown and rappers Lil Wayne and Big Sean.

Speaking with The Observer, King said Shy Guy has been sampled by other acts almost every year since it was first release back in 1995.

“Jealous has it’s own mark. The sample is not obvious and I like that. I don’t love all the songs related to Shy Guy, but if I signed off on it, I’m OK with it. I kinda look at them all as my grandkids in song form. It feels great to have them,” she said.

Diana King said DJ Khaled was given permission to sample “Shy Guy” six months before Father of Asahd’s release. “Usually, the artistes who are current and/or signed to a major label ask permission upfront in writing. They also send you the new song so you can actually listen and decide what percentage to use,” King explained.

Jealous official music video has already racked up 15 million views on DJ Khaled’s YouTube channel since its release on May 17. Watch the visuals below.
