A powerful earthquake with a 6.2 magnitude struck Amatrice, Italy early this morning destroying half of the town. The earthquake was then followed by 200 aftershocks and a tremor of a 5.5 magnitude.
The earthquake has killed at least 73 people and has left at least 100 people injured. According to the head of the emergency unit for the Civil Protection Agency the number of missing people is undetermined at the moment.
Authorities compared the intensity of the earthquake to the one that rocked the country in 2009 which killed more than 300 people.
