The Dancehall fraternity has responded to the death of Reggae veteran Toots Hibbert.

The 77-year-old icon, real name Frederick Hibbert, passed away on Friday (September 11) at the University Hospital of the West Indies.

Toots had been in a medically-induced coma at the Tony Thwaites Wing of the UHWI and was also on a ventilator after he developed “breathing problems.” He was awaiting a COVID-19 test result.

Several Dancehall artistes took to social media following the devastating news.

“2020 took so much and plenty this one is a super loss way b4 Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff he been doing it for Reggae Salute the great @toots_hibbert,” Bounty killer wrote. “Talk about pioneer talk about legend talk about trail blazer talk about reggae forefather Mr 5446!!
Condolences to the family and friends.”

“Icon #Pioneer #Legend #Toots Thank you for sharing your gift with the world…One of my most memorable experiences was getting the chance to ask you how managed to project your very distinct voice so effortlessly with the microphone held casually about waist height. That lesson is now a main feature of my performance. #ThankYou #RIP #Prayers for your family,” Agent Sasco wrote.
