Dancehall Stars Mourn The Death Of Louie Rankin

The Tropixs (Kingston, Jamaica) – The Dancehall community is now mourning the death of veteran deejay and actor Louie Rankin.

Members of the Dancehall community have taken to social media to pour out their tributes for iconic Jamaican personality Louie Rankin, who died in a car accident in Canada last Monday.

On Monday Dancehall fans were left stunned after the entertainer’s Twitter account announced his death saying “it saddens us to announce that “the original don dada”, “the trailblazer” – the legend Louis Ox Rankin passed away this morning.”

There are conflicting reports to how the entertainer actually died, with one reporting claiming he was hit by an SUV while crossing a roadway, while another claims Rankin’s vehicle was hit by a truck.

Since the announcement several Dancehall and international superstars took to social media to pour out their heartfelt tributes, including; Popcaan, Mavado, Spragga Benz, Vybz Kartel, Shaggy, Stylo G, Squash, Agent Sasco, Ding Dong, and rapper Nas.

Rankin is best known for his breakout acting role in the 1998 Hip Hop cult classic “Belly,” which featured rappers DMX and Nas. He was also known for his role of “Teddy Bruckshut” in the movie “Shottas” (2002), starring alongside Ky-Mani Marley and Spragga Benz.

The multi-talented star was also a deejay, scoring a big hit with his 1992 hit single “Typewriter.”
