Dancehall Artist Urged To Support JCDC Festival Competition

Established Dancehall and Reggae acts are being urged to support the annual JCDC festival competition amidst its recent struggles.

Veteran entertainer and manager Tommy Cowan has called on popular Reggae and Dancehall artist to give some much-needed support to the annual JCDC festival song competition, by actually entering.

According to Cowan, contemporary artists need to realize the cultural value of the competition, as it has helped to enhance a diversify the careers over several top performers in the past.

The former manager claims that a good festival can actually stick with fans for generations, and tends to resonate with Jamaicans all across the diaspora who see it as a source of national pride.

Cowan says many entertainers decide to opt out of the competition because believe that they are just too big for it, which he blasted as nonsense citing that several top artists such as Derrick Morgan, Desmond Dekker and Toots and The Maytals have actually done over the years.

The annual festival, which is usually staged during Jamaica’s Emancipation-Independence period was forced to be scrapped this year after it reportedly encountering financial difficulties. Promoters have however promised that the festival competition will return bigger and better in 2018.
