Culture & Entertainment Minister Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange has labelled Ishawna’s Miss Lou comments as “unfortunate”.
According to the veteran politician, she believes Ishawna was ignorant to the cultural significance of Miss Lou, because if she had the historical awareness she doubts she would have made the controversial statements.
The “Equal Rights” singer faced heavy backlash after she made controversial statements on social media two weeks ago, comparing Miss Lou’s bandana attire to a tablecloth.

The politician claims that much of current Dancehall culture is actually influenced by iconic figures such as Miss Lou, so it is unfortunate that artists don’t spend more time learning about our Jamaican history.
Grange also took the opportunity to reveal that her Ministry will be undertaking a legacy project to honour Miss Lou, which includes mounting of a life size statue of the cultural icon to coincide with the Jamaica 55 celebrations.
