Embattled Miss Jamaica World finalist Shaneke Williams has broken her silence following the widespread condemnation on social media.
Jamaicans blasted Williams and the MJW organizers online when they announced she was one of the sixteen finalists in this year’s pageant after she was charged for aiding and abetting the rape of a 15-year-old girl.
The case involved former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate Don Creary who was charged with rape. The charges against the two were later dismissed after the complainant indicated that she did not wish to proceed with the matter.
However despite the backlash and persons threatening to boycott the event, Williams say she has no intentions of stepping down as she has her eyes set on the crown.
According to Williams she entered the competition to share her story and inspire others who may be experiencing a similar experience. She revealed that while she expected scrutiny, she was not prepared for the online bullying and hate from Jamaicans.
