Capleton Granted Bail $250,000, Judge Issues Warning

Capleton was granted $250,000 bail when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday.

The Dancehall/Reggae veteran appeared tired after spending the weekend in jail. Capleton was offered bail by Parish Judge Vaughn Smith following an application by his attorney, Christopher Townsend. He’s to return to court on June 14.

Capleton was also ordered to submit his fingerprints to the police.

The judge turned down a request by the clerk of court, Hansurd Lawson, for the entertainer to surrender his travel documents as part of his bail conditions but warned that he may do so if the entertainer misses one court date.

Capleton is booked for the upcoming annual show Best Of The Best in Miami on May 27, as well as, the annual Groovin’ In the Park in Queens, New York on June 24. He also has a gig in Trinidad set for June 9th.

He was also warned not to communicate with the complainant or her relatives.

Capleton Shares His Side Of The Story Following Arrest

Detectives assigned to the Centre for Investigation Sexual Offence and Child Abuse (CISOCA) arrested and charged the entertainer on Friday.

Reports from the police are that on Saturday, April 28 at about 11:20 a.m., the “Jah Jah City” singer whose real name is Clifton Bailey, reportedly hired a female hairdresser to groom his hair at a hotel in the New Kingston area. While at the hotel, it is reported that he forcibly had sexual intercourse with the female.

The matter was reported to the police and an investigation launched. Bailey was subsequently charged after a question and answer interview was conducted in the presence of his attorney.
