Buju Banton

The Caribbean American Heritage (CARAH) Awards has decided to rescind its offer to honour Buju Banton at this year’s ceremony.

The Grammy-award winning artiste was going to be honored for his outstanding contribution to reggae music at the virtual event on November 20.

While much information is not available on CARAH’s change of heart, organisers told the Jamaica Gleaner that, “Our official stance is that talks stalled.”

In the latest press release issued by CARAH’s community administrator, Sharon Williams, Buju Banton’s name noticeably was not included.

According to the new press release names three Jamaicans, Don Wehby, group chief executive officer, GraceKennedy Limited, Olympian Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and veteran reggae singer Judy Mowatt will be honoured at the event.

Industry insiders are speculating that CARAH decided to rescind its offer following Banton’s strong anti-mask stance back in October.

Maybe that was the recent for the “Blessed” singer’s recent viral post on Instagram.
