Bounty Killer explains to use that his respect for Buju Banton held him back from disrespecting him after he insulted Vybz Kartel at a stage show in 2002.
After Banton took the microphone from the hands of the The Worl’ Boss who was 26 at the time, Bounty Killer scolded him in Kartel’s defense. In a video circulating Instagram today, Bounty explains to some of his friends that he was forced to give Buju a piece of his mind after he disrespected Vybz Kartel back then and he had to do make sure he was not being too harsh or disrespectful.
Rodney Basil Price, known as Bounty Killer, explain that he had to address Buju respectful because he was one of his most admired artiste. “Nuff people nuh know. Das why me couldn’t diss Buju fi Kartel… becaw me idolize Buju tuh. And Kartel a mi soljah. Rock and a hard place; mi did haffi deal wid it moderately. Becaw any artiste grab weh di ike suh from mi artiste, arrogance a guh gwaan,” Killer said.
“Buju have a lot fi duh wid mi success. Yeah man. Suh is a whole heap a history. Indirectly or directly a still help, becaw Buju help me indirectly. Shabba help me indirectly; Ninjaman help me physically,” the Warlord noted.
In the clip of the incident, Bounty Killer is seen alognside Vybz Kartel deejaying his song duet with the artiste called Gyal Clown. He then passes the mic to Kartel who begins his verse, Buju Banton then taps Kartel prompting him to hand over the mic. The Worl’ Boss slightly flashes his hand away telling Buju ‘hold on dog’ and turns to Bounty Killer. Buju then forcefully took the mic away deejays a few lines and hands the mic back to Kartel who was hesitant in grabbing the mic. Killer then grabbed the mic and addressed the situation.
“Gargamel no disrespect, but you can’t disrespect the young artist them like that, inna di eyes of di public” Bounty said. “You have to set example. See what me a say. Because him a sing a one tune and him a deejay for the people them and him naan overdweet. Him don’t even get in the chorus. Anyway no disrespect,” he said and then he and Kartel Continued with the song.
