One of Bob Marley’s granddaughters, Selah Marley, gave us an inside scope of her upbringing.

Daughter of Lauryn Hill and Rohan Marley, Selah Marley recently detailed punishment and trauma her parents subjected her to as a child via an Instagram Live. She gives the impression that she is healing from her time with them and stated that her mother was “angry and unapproachable,” and also “on the slave owner s***” because of the sever beatings she dished out to her kids.

Most of who caught the clips of her rant were more shocked that she made the choice to air our her family than her distress over how she was treated. She also clapped back at the Shade Room blog for making a one-sided repost, painting the picture that she was ungrateful, negative, and petty.

Selah also explained that just because she was raised in a family doesn’t mean it was always rainbows and sunshine and she is still bothered by a few of her experiences. She added that her mom may have been one of the best hip-hop songbirds in history, but there was nothing sweet about her earliest memories. “She was just very angry. She was very, very angry. So so so so angry. She was literally unapproachable, not easy to talk to.” she went on to say and added that even tho her mom was an amazing woman “she obviously didn’t do everything right”

Selah then went on to discuss her father, saying that he was hardly at home or in her life. “There is a void where there should be a person,” she said, proposing that she was left emotionally scarred because of this. She even mentioned her parent’s arguments, “they didn’t really get to know each other” she said and added that she “actually didn’t see much peace” in her upbringing.
