Bob Marley fans angered by NBC presenter’s Usain Bolt comparisons

Fans of the legendary Reggae artiste, Bob Marley, have blasted veteran NBC Sports presenter Bob Costas for comparing the Jamaican icon’s popularity to that of Usain Bolt.

The veteran sports presenter, Costas, made the controversial comparison during NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics in Rio, saying that the Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt had now surpassed Bob Marley in popularity.

“With apologies to all you reggae fans, I think Bolt has even outdistanced Marley the way he outdistances the field,” said Costas.

The commentary did not go down well with some Reggae fans who blasted the veteran presenter on social media.

Some fans blasted the presenter’s comparison as “ignorant,” while others lamented that a comparison of the two great Jamaican icons should not be made at all, saying that both icons should be respected for the greatness individually.

Bolt made history on Sunday by becoming the first athlete to win three back-to-back Olympic 100-metre titles. He now has his sights set on the 200-metre and 100-metre sprint relay titles.
