Record label Big Laugh Music recently teamed up with Dancehall artiste Vershon on a track titled “Outside.” Released in April 2020, the track is featured on the Chop Chop Riddim.

“I had a riddim that I thought would challenge Vershon so I reach out to him on Instagram, he recorded his song and sent it back,” producer Phillip James explained, “he called me saying that this song was out of the norm for him and told me how much he believed in this project so we decided to release the song with visuals and go all out in promoting it.”

With the change in style, the pair worked together to channel the artiste’s creativity into delivering what promised to be (and has become) a hit. The music video was released on the artiste’s VEVO page on May 6, 2020. The high calibre production, which was directed by Terminal 4 Media, has racked up over 1.6 million views in the short time since its release, accompanied by rave reviews for the track.

“The feedback has been great. The riddim itself has been getting heavy rotation on the airwaves and it has been trending on other digital platforms,” the producer said.

James’ first introduction to the music industry was his stint as a road manager for Dancehall artiste Charley Black. In 2010, he was a part of the Gesta Music Label with ZJ Dymond and Dane Ray, then later founded Big Laugh Music in 2014. Since then, the label has been responsible for a host of successful projects, such as the True Words Riddim, the One1government Riddim and the Trap Life Riddim. Various artistes graced these projects, including Chronic Law, Deep Jahi, Prohgres, I Octane, Dane Ray and Trinidadian artiste Jahllano. Other artistes featured on the Chop Chop Riddim are Xklusive, Hydal, Kemar Highcon and Konshens.

Looking ahead, the producer is focused on working with his team to release more projects in the coming months, while working to build the Big Laugh Music brand.

“I have to give thanks for the people around me that share the same vision and work ethics as me like Teemain, Sasain, Squiddel and Kimone. They make the musical journey for me an awesome one,” James expressed.
