Ghetto Splash 2020 has joined the growing list of local annual events to go virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s staging of Ghetto Splash, dubbed “The Virtual Experience” has already confirmed live performances from Dancehall veteran Beenie Man and the Unruly Boss Popcaan.

According to event organiser Patrick Roberts, they are in talks with Grammy-winning artiste Shaggy, and also looking to honour Reggae icon Beres Hammond at the event so Dancehall/Reggae fans will definitely be experiencing the same high-profile production they’re used to.

Ghetto Splash said they made the decision to go virtual earlier this year following the cancellation of several major shows due to the lockdown of the local entertainment industry.

Roberts told The Gleaner that he and his team are currently in negotiations with one of the Jamaica’s major telecommunications network to live-stream the event as they seek to target one million viewers. “We are in the final stages of negotiations with one of the island’s major telecommunications network for them to carry the entire Ghetto Splash virtual experience right across the world. We’re going to take the show into your bedrooms, your living rooms, etc, from your phones, etc.”
