Beenie Man has pleaded not guilty to breaching the Disaster Risk Management and Noise Abatement Acts.
The Dancehall superstar pleaded not guilty on both charges after appearing in the St. Elizabeth Parish Court this morning.
Beenie Man, whose real name is Moses Davis, was charged in connection with an illegal party in Shrewsbury, St. Elizabeth. The party, which was staged on November 29, was invaded by cops and the deejay initially warned.
The entertainer managed to irk the police following his promotion of another event for New Year’s Eve. He was subsequently summoned and charged for the original November 29th offense.
“Them charge me for music, so we deh ya about music. So we ah talk to them about music. So it’s matter of the court, so when the proceeding finish then mi cyan tell yuh wha happen,” Beenie Man declared.
Beenie Man’s attorney, Roderick Gordon, also explained that he was “charged with failing to obtain permission from the Superintendent, contrary to the Noise Abatement Act, and he has been charged with a breach of the curfew contrary to the relevant Disaster Relief Management Order.”
“He has pleaded not guilty to both offenses…so we look forward to that trial,” Gordon added.
If found guilty Beenie Man faces a maximum fine of $1 million and/or 12 months’ imprisonment.
Beenie Man is set to return to court on April 19 in the Parish court.
