The world’s oldest person, 117-year-old Violet Moss-Brown has died, her son Barry Russell confirmed on Friday evening.

Moss Brown passed away at the Fairfield Medical Centre in Montego Bay.

Her death comes days after the Jamaican Centurian, who is recognised as the world’s oldest person was snatched up from her Duanvale, Trelawny home by family members who claimed she was not receiving the best care.

Brown was reportedly at the centre of a family tug-of-war, which resulted in her being whisked away under the instructions of her son Barry Russell, who claims the Centurian was not receiving proper treatment from her grandchildren.

Family members expressed great concern as they said Brown was been seen since last Saturday after she was taken for a medical appointment.

Brown was taken away from her home by Karen Samuels, who acted on the behalf of her son, who instructed that she be taken to an undisclosed location where she would receive better treatment.

According to Russell, his mother’s grandchildren did not have her best interest at heart and accused them of being greedy and uncaring.

However, Lelieth Palmer, the daughter of Moss Brown’s son, Harland Fairweather disputed the claims, saying that she was only taken away due to a family dispute following her father’s death as to who should care for her.
