Incarcerated dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel’s new ‘King Of The Dancehall’ album has landed the biggest first-week sales for a dancehall artiste since Beenie Man’s ‘Undisputed’ album in 2006.

According to sales tracker Nielsen Music, ‘King Of The Dancehall’ sold 1,867 copies the first week of it’s release (June 10).

The 14-track project which was produced by TJ records peaked at No.1 on the iTunes Reggae chart in the USA and Italy a day after it’s release made it’s debut at No.2 this week on the Billboard Reggae chart.

“King Of the Dancehall” is the second album since his incarceration follows the release of the self-proclaimed Worl Boss’ 2015 album called “Viking (Vybz Is King)” which peaked at No.3 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.

However while some fans celebrate, Dancehall insiders are saying the genre is in a crisis with poor numbers.

Dancehall enigma Alkaline’s ‘New Level Unlocked’ album debuted at No.1 on Billboard Reggae chart selling less than 1,000 copies in its first week, while Kranium’s debut album, ‘Rumors’ failed to pass the 1,000 mark.
