Vybz Kartel Prison

Vybz Kartel’s business partner is confident that the Dancehall deejay will be a free man very soon.

Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, Shawn Storm, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones are currently serving life in prison for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams at a house in Havendale, St Andrew, in August 2011. Seven months ago they made an appeal against their murder convictions in the Supreme Court.

Michael Dawson, who co-authored the book, ‘The Voice of the Jamaican Ghetto’, with Vybz Kartel, believes the “Fever” deejay’s appeal will be successful.

“I was in court every day and if you have any appreciation for due process and equity and law, then there is really no reason why he shouldn’t be home soon,” Dawson told The Star.

According to Dawson, Vybz Kartel is also confident that he will be released and the one thing that he really wants to do when he walks out of prison is spend time with his family.

The Dancehall superstar is said to be upbeat and not bitter in any way. Kartel reportedly refuses to let the system get him down despite is current situation, “Man a soldier. Haffi be strong you nuh. This is not for the weak-hearted,” Dawson added.

Last year attorney, Bert Samuels shared that he was hoping that decision would be made during the last quarter of 2018, however he is now eyeing a March deadline for the Appeal Court to return with a verdict.

“It’s a new term, and we are hoping that during this term which lasts up to the end of March we will get the judgment,” Samuels said during an interview last month. “So we are anxiously awaiting the judgment in that case, and we’re very very optimistic so let’s see what happens.”
