Incarcerated dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel is back at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, formerly known as General Penitentiary in Kingston after being discharged from the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI).

According to Kartel’s attorney, Tom Tavares-Finson, the “Fever” deejay was released from hospital over the weekend after spending over five days undergoing treatment for an apparent kidney-related ailment.

“He [Vybz Kartel] went back to the institution [Tower Street] over the weekend as the doctors are satisfied with the progress he’s made and they will continue to treat him at the General Penitentary,” Tavares-Finson said.

Vybz Kartel is serving a life sentence for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. He was convicted along with Shawn Campbell, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones in the Home Circuit Court in March 2014 after a 65-day trial, the longest in Jamaican history.

The self-proclaimed ‘Worl Boss’ must serve 35 years before becoming eligible for parole. Shawn Campbell and Kahira Jones, who were sentenced to serve a minimum of 25 years, and Andre St John, who can apply for parole after serving 15 years of a life sentence.

Despite being behind bars for nearly six years, his music still dominates the local and international airwaves.
