The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) are reporting that they seized over JMD $1.4 million and more than USD $8,400 during an operation in the Bottom Pen community of St. James on Tuesday.

According to reports, one woman was arrested in connection seizure.

Major Basil Jarrett, civil military cooperation and media affairs officer of the JDF, said a joint military and police team conducted search operations in a number of communities across Montego Bay, “The team went to a house in Bottom Pen, St James and asked the sole occupant if she had anything to declare, to which she replied in the negative.”

The security force said the house was subsequently searched in the woman’s presence and the cash found hidden between pages of several books and in a cupboard.

The woman could not give a satisfactory account for the money or its origins and as a result, the cash, two cell phones and a tablet computer were seized. She was then taken to the Freeport Police Station for further questioning.

As part of their attempts to reduce the level of criminality in St James, the security forces said they are committed to taking the profit out of crime. As such, they are pleading to residents in the communities to provide information on crime and other illicit activities by calling 837-8888 or email [email protected]
