Samantha J has shared her musical journey since breaking on the scene with her smash hit single “Tight Skirt.”

The Jamaican starlet recently sat down for an interview with online podcast series, The Fix, where she explained what exactly she has been up to since getting the break with her 2013 hit single.

The “Picture” singer took the time out to explain her absence from the local scene, in light of frequent criticisms that she deserted Dancehall music after getting her big hit and signing to an international label.

According to the “Picture” singer, for years she was severely limited in her creative and musical output due to the nature of her deal, and the decisions of her previous label, Columbia Records.

The singer revealed that after signing with the major label she had to relocate to the United States, where she spent several years recording and touring but hardly had an opportunity to come home.

She claims that her creativity was severely impacted as most of the recordings were determined by her label, as in they decided who she could record with and what particular sound she could go for.

The singer has since revealed that she is now signed to an independent label, which handles her licenses in the US while also recently signing to Sony Norway, which handles her distribution in that country.

The new move means the Jamaican superstar is now free to collaborate with whomever she chooses as well as put out more of the sound fans came to know her for in the initial stages.

Samantha J has recently put out several new tracks including collaborations with Dancehall artistes Gyptian and Tommy Lee which have been well received by fans since their releases.
