The Mayor of Port Antonio has blasted one of his fellow politicians for suggesting that Ishawna should be banned from performing within Portland.

Paul Thompson, the mayor of Port Antonio, has blasted Stephen Williams, a Councillor who recently suggested that Dancehall artist Ishawna should be banned from performing within the parish following her raunchy performance at Labour Day’s Bikini Beach show.

The Councillor had called for the former Downsound Records singer to be banned from the parish claiming that her “Equal Rights” performance was far too “lewd” and provocative for public display.

However, the mayor has hit back at his colleague saying the suggestion to ban Ishawna is completely wrong and unwarranted.

According to the mayor, such an opinion threads on dangerous waters, as although some people may not agree with Ishawna’s “Equal Rights” message there are thousands of others that do, and you cannot disregard public opinion.

Ishawna created a wave of controversy during her performance on Labour Day, when she performed her hit single encouraging women to demand “Equal Rights” from their male partners, as well as explaining exactly how it should be done.
