The newly appointed Opposition Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade for the People’s National Party’s (PNP), Lisa Hanna kick-started her tenor in quite possibly the worst possible way on Wednesday.

The former Miss World winner was left red-faced after she mistakenly sent condolences to the relatives, friends and countrymen of a St Lucian diplomat, who she thought had died in the tragic mass shootings in Las Vegas earlier this week.

The politician was left embarrassed after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade had to release an official statement correcting her statements claiming that St Lucia’s Ambassador to the Organisation of American States (OAS), Anton Edmunds, had died.

Jamaican Foreign Minister Senator Kamina Johnson Smith was forced to correct the blunder after Edmunds himself, and St Lucia’s Foreign Minister, Flood-Beaubrun, both confirmed he was alive and well.

The Ministry has since released a statement calling for politicians to exercise greater caution in an age where ‘fake news’ has become so prominent and dangerous.
