Konshens has leapt to the defence of Dancehall music following recent suggestions by critics that genre is largely at fault for encouraging much of the social ills plaguing Jamaican society today.

The entertainer recently made the declaration during a recent interview with where it was suggested that some critics believe that the genre was guilty of negatively affecting the minds of its young consumers with its violent and sexually charged content.

According to the “Gyal A Bubble” deejay, although the genre should fairly shoulder some of the blame it should not be made a scapegoat, as there are numerous other factors which actually have greater influence than music.

Konshens Reflects On Late Brother Delus

Konshens was clear in outlining he is an entertainer first and foremost and should not be held responsible, or be expected to be a moral compass of youths.

The deejay explained that his core audience is actually females, so he tends to pen sexually charged anthems which they gravitate to. He went on to explain that although he does consciously release positive music aimed at younger minds he will continually aim to please core fans.

According to the deejay, he nor any other entertainer should not be expected to fulfill the roles of a parent, teacher, or pastor in society as their jobs are simply to entertain and release content their audience wants to hear.
