Police Commissioner Dr Carl Williams has announced that the first batch of body cameras have been issued to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) was on Thursday.

The 120 body cameras were donated by the United States Government as part of a pilot program aimed at improving accountability within the police force. They were presented at the launch of the project at the Office of the Commissioner on Old Hope Road in St Andrew.

According to Williams the program marks a continued step towards a progressive partnership between the US Embassy and the JCF to make its police force a more professional organisation.

Williams said that the technology will help to encourage greater respect for human rights, create accountability within the police force, and provide evidence against false accusations.

The Commisioner revelead that six JCF divisions will partake in the pilot program, including St Andrew Central, St Andrew South, Kingston East, Kingston Central, Motorised Patrol, and Traffic headquarters.
