Gully Bop’s manager, Karl Durrant is assuring Dancehall fans that the “Wuk Affa Mi” has deejay matured and is now ready to handle the world of fame.
Last month the internet sensation-turned-recording artiste announced that he is back to reclaim his rightful spot in Dancehall after his hiatus.
According to Durrant, Gully Bop is currently performing on an islandwide high school tour and still has a huge fans base.
Despite the controversy surrounding Gully Bop’s name over the last few months, Karl Durrant says he is still a top performed and always delivers at any stage. “Gully Bop is an excellent performer and he has this love of the people. So even when dem cuss him and seh Gully Bop this and that, just give him a microphone, put him on any stage, and watch the result,” he said.
Gully Bop was catapulted to superstardom after a video of him freestyling a track went viral on social media.
The deejay would go on to become one of the hottest names on the Jamaican entertainment scene after racking up several hit singles, including “Body Specialist” and “My God Dem Nuh Bad Like Me.”
Unfortunately last year Gully Bop endured some hard times following a series of legal troubles which saw him getting arrested and charged with physically assaulting his wife in St Thomas.
Following his arrest, Gully Bop was ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation by a judge after displaying questionable actions during his court appearance. The deejay was also accused of constantly abusing drugs and alcohol, including cocaine and marijuana.
Durrant says the time out of the spotlight allowed for Gully Bop’s self-development.
“He is more mature and in a better place emotionally and mentally and better prepared to handle what comes with stardom in my opinion,” he said. “I wouldn’t say that he was necessarily the main culprit that caused his career to slow down, it was a case of the wrong circle. Now he listens more and he is humbler so I think it will be easier to work with him. I know we can get him as hot as before or even hotter. We have all the connections to do it and we can do it again.”
