A family is now mourning the death of their 16-year-old son after his badly decomposed body was discovered in a shallow grave in Welch Heights district, Spanish Town, St Catherine on Monday.

The teen has been identified as Courtney Sterling of Lauriston, St Catherine, who was a fifth form student of the Spanish Town High.

According to police reports, the teen’s body was discovered by residents who say they saw the remains protruding from a shallow grave about 10:30 am in a section of the Welch Heights community.

Cops were alerted and the body subsequently processed and removed.

Devastated family members say the boy had been reported missing since Friday after leaving home to print his SBA.

The young boy has been described as a “promising student,” who was slated to sit eight subjects in the upcoming CSEC (Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate) examinations, and a registered member of the 4H club.
