Born Chavez Anglin February 28th 1993, Chavez IllmatiQ is a 23 year old Reggae/Dancehall artist who is lyrically profound and potent.
Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica his love for music was evident from the start, tuning in and also performing some “hits of the day” by acts such as Beenie Man, Buju Banton and Bounty Killer for friends at school and family members. This evolved into him writing his own tracks in primary school and entertained his class regularly with his budding craft. Over the years the craft has grown with the Deejay, spitting thought provoking lyrics that transport the listener to his reality and perceptions.
This trait can be traced back to his musical role models Kanye West, Bounty Killer and Damian “Junior Gong” Marley.
“What is real is what I put to paper” the artist quoted recently in an interview with One Knock TV, his music delivers just that. Music filled with depictions of his life and the lives of the masses around him.
His first step towards a music career was taken when he was discovered Sanjay “Freeze” Pennant , producer at Zionnoize Freeze Productions who gave him the opportunity to produce his first single “Drape Up” on the Rude Intent Riddim in October 2015. Since then there has been no looking back, tracks like Kill dem Slow and Threesome with Marie have been released since, gaining great reviews from the fans, also radio play and bookings for various events.
Illmatiq’s next venture is the release of his anticipated mix tape “Ill Therapy”, set to be released on the 21st of July 2016. Featuring tracks such as Threesome with Marie, Fighting For More, Stomata Blem and Suh mi Tan.
