Dancehall acts Alkaline, Spice, Popcaan and Aidonia are the leading nominees in the 2018 staging of the Your View Awards.

The newly rebranded YVA’s, which was formerly known as the “Youth View Awards” is scheduled to take place on February 24 with several of Dancehall’s biggest names leading the nominations.

Dancehall heavyweight Alkaline seems an overwhelming favourite as he was nominated in 7 different categories while his closest rival is female deejay Spice who copped 6 nominations for her efforts.

The two leading superstars are followed next by Dancehall superstars Aidonia and Popcaan, who both nabbed 4 nominations respectively, including the much coveted “Favourite Dancehall Artiste” category.

One notable and controversial omission that fans did manage to pick up on rather quickly is the absence of Vybz Kartel, whose hits have continued to dominate the charts despite the entertainer currently serving a life sentence for the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

According to organizers, Vybz Kartel has been deemed ineligible due to certain rule changes implemented, particularly one stating nominees should be able to perform if requested.

Other artists who have received nominations in this year’s staging of the YVA’s include  Spice, Shenseea, Mavado, Chronixx, Sean Paul, and more.
