It has been a growing trend over the years for Jamaican musicians to be shunned when it comes to credits while collaborating with international artistes but this could all be set to change.

According to Rolling Stone writer Elias Leight, the contributions of several Jamaican musicians have been erased from American mainstream music in recent years due to lack of accreditation.

However, this could all radically change in the near future as at least one established rapper has decided to lead the change.

Accomplished rapper Royce Da 5’9″ recently released the music video for his latest single “Summer On Lock,” which featured Jadakiss, Fabulous, Pusha T and Jamaica’s own Agent Sasco.

The veteran Dancehall artiste, who is responsible for the bridge of the track alongside the Hip Hop heavyweights, was properly credited for his work and also made an appearance in the music video.

The song is not the first time the “Winning Right Now” deejay has collaborated with big-name rappers as his vocals were also featured on Kendrick Lamar’s hit single “The Blacker The Berry” but never received any credits on the album.

Agent Sasco was not the only Dancehall act to be snubbed in recent years as Jamaican superstars such as Popcaan was also featured on an early leak of Drake’s 2016 smash hit “Controlla,” only for it to be shelved.

In response to his omission from the credit list, Agent Sasco told Rolling Stone: “I’m grateful for the opportunity, because they could have not put the verse on there. But if they are going to use it, then let it be used in a way that more access is granted, and more opportunities can be granted. We need access, and we need proper leverage.”
