Members of the security forces operating in St James under the current state of emergency, seized 49 rounds of ammunition in a tin container on Tuesday.

A joint military and police team were reportedly conducting search operations in a number of communities in the parish, when a house on Browns Lane, Granville, was searched and a tin container found underneath the structure.

The container was opened and the 49 rounds of 7.62 ammunition were discovered buried in a powdery substance. This type of round is the ammunition used in the Kalashnikov assault rifles that have been linked to numerous murders and shootings in St James, the lawmen explained.

No arrests were made in connection with the find. The security forces continue to urge persons to help in the fight against crime by calling the tip hotline at 837-8888 or via email at [email protected]
